Doug Madill's Outdoor Painting
Doug Madill's passion is to paint outdoor scenes (en plein air) with a sense of realism, inventiveness, and spontaneity. "En plein air" is a French term which means "in the open air", and it is commonly used by artists world-wide that work on-site in front of outdoor subjects.

It usually takes him a couple hours (or more) to paint a composition on a small canvas or art panel. Sometimes he might refine it a little further in the studio afterwards. Although his paintings are glimpses into his creative, expressive world, he also invites the viewer to engage in their own narrative within the small sketches that he creates. He is constantly searching for pleasing geometries, harmonious patterns of light and dark, hidden stories, or an intriguing visual phenomena particular to a certain season, weather condition, or time of day. His love for such things as nature, science, geology, and how humans thrive within our contemporary rural and urban environments are all a part of his painting efforts.
