Doug Madill is a painter currently living in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. He was born near Chicago, Illinois in 1972. He attended Pratt Institute and studied Fine Arts from 1990-1994, majoring in Painting. He began painting en plein air on the rooftops of Pratt Institute's campus that offered panoramic views of New York City. Since then, Madill has pursued the lifelong study of painting the light, forms, and atmospheric effects of nature, either in the cityscape of somewhere like New York City, or in the rugged wilderness out in the American West.
Madill strives for a sense of realism and spontaneity in his paintings. Sound drawing, harmonious colors, and expressive brushstrokes are some of the key elements in his artwork.
He's always seeking to refine his painterly statements out of curiosity and wonder of the world around him. He works in a variety of mediums, such as acrylic or oil on canvas, and gouache or casein on watercolor paper.
His paintings are in several private collections in the USA and abroad.
